Dignities and sect Pro
Essential dignities show how comfortable a planet is in its sign. This section scores them for the seven classical planets, Sun through Saturn.
The table
For each planet: whose domicile, exaltation, triplicity, term and face it's in, plus the total score. The triplicity column lists all three rulers: day, night and participating.
Lilly's scores:
| Condition | Points |
|---|---|
| Domicile | +5 |
| Exaltation | +4 |
| Triplicity (sect ruler, Dorothean) | +3 |
| Term (Egyptian) | +2 |
| Face (Chaldean decans) | +1 |
| Detriment | −5 |
| Fall | −4 |
| Peregrine (no dignity at all) | −5 |
Mars at 22° Aries scores +7 (domicile plus term). The Sun at 15° Libra scores −9 (fall plus peregrine).
Sect
The line above the table says whether the chart is diurnal or nocturnal. A chart is diurnal when the Sun is above the horizon. Day planets: Sun, Jupiter, Saturn; night planets: Moon, Venus, Mars. Mercury's sect follows its position relative to the Sun (oriental or occidental). The sample chart is nocturnal: the Sun is in the 2nd house, below the horizon.
Mutual receptions
The line under the table lists pairs of planets in each other's signs by domicile or exaltation.
